Laser Dentistry ..

" The latest Revolution in dentistry. It has made the care of teeth something it’s never been before…Painless"

One of the most beneficial technological advances in dentistry  and is a key tool in cosmetic dentistry , this piece of dental equipment is known by the name of a "Dental Laser" and this is specially designed to make work less painful for the patient and much easier for the dentist.

Diode lasers:  They are used strictly for soft tissue procedures and penetrate 2 to 3 mm or more into soft tissue, depending on the wavelength and tissue biotype. Diode laser are absorbed by pigmented structures, making them ideal for cutting melanotic soft tissue and providing hemostasis. The usefulness of the diode laser can be greatly expanded by proper carbonization of the fiber tip. This allows for vaporization with limited peripheral damage to nonpigmented tissue.

Uses of Dental Laser:

Gingival recontouring & crown lengthening:  used to reshape and/or eliminate excess gum tissue for both health and aesthetic purposes, improve the appearance of a “gummy” smile and short teeth.

Pocket Reduction - Gum Disease Treatment: used to promote healing of diseased gum pockets by eliminating or reducing the pocket depth and helping to restore healthy periodontal structures around the teeth. With certain types of lasers, regeneration and "new attachment" of the bone, ligaments, and gum connective tissue, can be accomplished. Bacteria levels in the gum pockets are significantly reduced by the dental laser.

Operculectomy: the part of the gingival tissue covering the erupting teeth usually the wisdom teeth, causing patient discomfort and pain on chewing may lead to infection .it is removed by laser with no anesthesia , no bleeding ,no postoperative pain or swelling.

Root canal treatment: used in disinfection of the root canal after endodontic instrumentation.

Advantages of Dental Laser include:

·   No more antibiotics

·   Less Pain

·   Less or No bleeding

·   Reduced risk of infection

·   Minimal or No Anesthesia

·   No noise (No drilling)

·   Faster Healing

·   May not require stitches.

·   More sterilized environment (laser kills bacteria)
